Toyota’s Plans New EV Batteries

Recently, Toyota held a technical briefing called "Toyota Technical Workshop." The theme? "Let's Change the Future of Cars." At the briefing, Toyota announced a variety of plans. Several of these included long-term and short-term plans for improved batteries.

In the discussion, Toyota revealed it will offer several battery options, including high-performance packs. Its main, mass-market solid-state battery will be a new, low-cost "bipolar" lithium iron phosphate (LFP) model. With this battery, Toyota aims for a 20 percent increase in range. They also expect a 40 percent reduction in cost and less than 30 minutes of charging.

Releasing sometime in 2027 or 2028, the new solid-state batteries offer greater energy density, higher electric range, and faster charging. The goal is to put refueling time on par with a gas-powered vehicle and offer a range of 745 miles. The significantly greater range and much-improved charging times prove Toyota is committed to its EV lineup.
