The Toyota Corolla received a midcycle refresh for 2023, with sharper styling, upgraded features, and more standard performance. However, something was missing from the 2023 Corolla lineup. After a year hiatus, Toyota's top-selling compact car is rediscovering its dark side with the return of the Nightshade package for the 2024 model year. The sable-themed special edition is based on the SE trim and will be available in sedan, hatchback, and, for the first time, hybrid body styles.
The Nightshade adds an edgier aesthetic to the Corolla's already bold styling, with darkened badging and exterior elements like a gloss-black sport mesh grille, black-painted rocker panels, and black caps for the heated side mirrors. Other blacked-out trim pieces include the shark fin antenna, rear lip spoiler, and lower diffuser. Hatchback models get additional sporty details like a vented rear wing and two-tone roof. 2024 Toyota Corolla Nightshade models roll around on 18-inch bronze-finished wheels, rounding out the assertive and refined look.
Gas-powered Nightshade models are motivated by a responsive yet efficient 169-horsepower 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that achieves an EPA-estimated 34 mpg combined for the sedan and 35 mpg combined for the hatchback. The first-ever 2024 Corolla Hybrid Nightshade is powered by a 138-horsepower battery-assisted 1.8-liter engine, boasting an impressive EPA-estimated rating of 50 mpg combined in FWD and 48 mpg with available electronic on-demand All Wheel Drive.
