As a long-standing mainstay of the car industry, Toyota embraces its responsibility to help facilitate a greener automotive future. Toyota's sustainability aspirations are ambitious, as the automaker strives to field 70 electrified models on its global roster by 2025. The company is well on its way with offerings like the hybrid i-FORCE MAX powertrain, plug-in hybrid "Prime" models, and bZ4X fully electric crossover. And last week, Toyota revealed the next steps in its plans for the US market.

Expanding on the company's commitment to electrification and manufacturing where it sells, Toyota announced its all-new three-row battery-electric SUV will be built at its Toyota Kentucky plant beginning in 2025. Batteries for Toyota's first US-assembled EV will come from Toyota North Carolina—a new battery plant that will receive an additional $2.1 billion investment to support the company's drive toward carbon neutrality.

"We are committed to reducing carbon emissions as much as possible and as soon as possible," said Ted Ogawa, president and chief executive officer, Toyota Motor North America. "To achieve this goal, customers must have access to a portfolio of options that meet their needs now and in the future. It is exciting to see our largest US plant, Toyota Kentucky, and our newest plant, Toyota North Carolina, drive us into the future together with BEV and battery production for our expanding electrified lineup."

Toyota has put over 23 million battery-powered and battery-assisted vehicles on the road—including hybrids, plug-in hybrids, fuel cell electric, and battery electric models—more than all other car manufacturers combined. The automaker plans to have an electrified option for every model in its lineup by 2025.
