With its lively handling and ferocious available 3.0-liter six-cylinder powerplant, the GR Supra has encapsulated the spirit of Toyota's GAZOO Racing team since its inception as a 2020 model. However, it has lacked a certain element that many enthusiasts find essential to the driving experience—a manual transmission. For 2023, Toyota has answered the call, reinstating the Supra's hands-on dynamic that helped make its legendary predecessor so popular.
Available exclusively with the 3.0-liter inline-six, the new six-speed intelligent manual transmission (iMT) has been developed specifically to suit the powerplant's 382 horsepower and 368 pound-feet of torque, with a shorter final drive ration, large-diameter clutch, and software tuned to optimize torque as soon as the clutch engages. The iMT software can be turned off in Sport mode. The weight and shape of the 200g shift knob and the quality of shift engagement were also thoughtfully considered, ensuring comfortable and natural-feeling operation.
Pricing for the 2023 GR Supra MT will be released this summer, with models rolling into dealerships later in the year.
