First introduced in 1958, the Land Cruiser is Toyota's longest-running nameplate. Throughout its run, the Land Cruiser evolved into an off-roading icon, renowned for its far-reaching capability, unbreakable durability, and peerless Toyota reliability. And Just when we thought the Land Cruiser had been laid to rest, Toyota has pulled the legendary terrain-tackler from the brink. To the delight of off-roaders and overlanders everywhere, Toyota has announced the Land Cruiser's triumphant return to North America for the 2024 model year.

"This icon belongs in our lineup," says Toyota group vice president and general manager Dave Christ. "For 2024, Land Cruiser returns to its origin with a heritage-inspired design paired with the legendary capability and durability Land Cruiser is known for, and it will take even more customers on adventures across the globe as it has done for generations."

Arriving in the spring of 2024, the new Land Cruiser generation holds true to its heritage, offering a purpose-built off-road experience for a more accessible value proposition, with a starting MSRP in the mid-$50,000 range. Here's an overview of what we know so far.

2024 Toyota Land Cruiser: Design and Powertrain

Returning to the US market after a three-year hiatus, the 2024 Land Cruiser leverages Toyota's TNGA-F body-on-frame platform. Made with high-strength steel with blanking and laser welds, the new ladder frame results in even more chassis rigidity.

Under the hood, the 2024 Land Cruise uses a new turbocharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder i-FORCE MAX hybrid powertrain. The system integrates a 48-hp electric motor into the eight-speed automatic transmission, increasing total output to 326 horsepower and 465 pound-feet of torque.

2024 Toyota Land Cruiser: Off-Road Attributes

Every Land Cruiser gets full-time four-wheel-drive with an electronically controlled two-speed transfer case and center locking differential. Vehicle stability control and an automatic limited-slip differential enable confident operation in low-traction situations. The standard rear e-locker can evenly distribute power to the rear wheels for enhanced grip over rough terrain.

The newly developed suspension system features a double-wishbone front suspension with twin-tube shocks and a multi-link coil spring rear suspension. And At the press of a button, the all-new disconnecting front stabilizer bar enables increased axle articulation, helping maintain wheel contact while traversing uneven obstacles.

The 2024 Land Cruiser offers numerous technologies to augment the off-road experience, including Multi-Terrain Select, CRAWL Control, Downhill Assist Control, and an available Multi-Terrain Monitor camera.

Advanced Driver Aids

When it's not conquering trails, the Land Cruiser helps keep you safe on the road. Every 2024 model includes the latest Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 suite of driver-assist technologies, including:

  • Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection
  • Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist
  • Full-Speed Range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control
  • Lane Tracing Assist
  • Road Sign Assist
  • Automatic High Beams
  • Proactive Driving Assist

2024 Toyota Land Cruiser: Accommodations and Features

Unlike the 2021 model, the seventh-gen Land Cruiser is a two-row midsize SUV with comfortable five-passenger accommodations. The smaller exterior dimensions (193.7" L x 84.2" W x 73.2" H) enable more nimble operation on tight trails. The interior design accentuates the Land Cruiser's rugged character while remaining refined and modern.
