Toyota is developing a new grade of trucks purpose-built to handle the rigors of overlanding. The company broke the news with the reveal of its Trailhunter Concept at the 2022 Specialty Equipment Market Association Show (SEMA). Built for adventure enthusiasts who love off-the-grid expeditions, Trailhunter reinforces Toyota's commitment to the overlanding community. The announcement comes as welcome news after the automaker ceased production of the Land Cruiser, a legend in the world of off-roading and the preferred vehicle of many overlanders.
"Trailhunter trucks will come straight from the factory equipped to meet the needs of overlanding enthusiasts," remarked Lisa Materazzo, group vice president of Toyota Division Marketing. "These trucks will be developed in-house by our engineering teams and will be the most capable OEM overlanding solutions designed to meet Toyota's legendary quality, durability and reliability standards."
Trailhunter trucks will be designed and developed in-house by Toyota, providing a fully trail-ready truck from the factory with all the equipment and accessories necessary for extended treks across all types of terrain. The concept truck displayed at Toyota's SEMA showcase featured Trailhunter-specific suspension, beefy skid plates, rugged bumpers, a light bar, and large roof and truckbed racks. It also featured numerous accessories to support off-the-grid living, like a rooftop tent, a refrigerator, and lots of purposeful storage, among other base camp necessities.
Of course, you don't have to wait to get an adventure-ready Toyota model. The automaker currently offers highly capable TRD Pro variants of several popular nameplates, including the Tundra, Tacoma, 4Runner, and Sequoia.
